Key Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives & Impact

The initiatives implemented by Center Foundation are aimed at impacting the lives, creating livelihood opportunities all along. Some of the initiatives are as under:

Microsoft

The proposed program under the Microsoft grant is an intervention created to build-on to the existing knowledge of technology the students in the XIth and XIIth standard (trained under the 'Vocationalization of school education scheme') in the IT / ITES sector and encouraging the students towards making a career in the technology space. Through this program, we would not only make them understand the upcoming technologies like AI, Machine Learning, etc. helping them navigate more advanced career paths that they would otherwise not be exposed to. The program would also work on the students' overall development by working on their cognitive and affective skills thereby improving attitudes, emotions, and feelings making them ready for the workspace of the 21st century.

The overarching objective of this project has been to help the students understand the current technology space, explore emerging technologies as possible employment avenues for their future. The project would also help India meet the demands of its industries by encouraging the youth to take up careers in emerging skills.

Various studies have underlined that girls need significant enablement at schools to pursue STEM and computing careers. Only 3% of all female students enrolled in higher education globally choose ICT fields of study. Women also tend to drop out from these disciplines in disproportionate numbers during their studies, the transition into the world of work, and even throughout their careers due to discriminatory gender norms and social expectations about abilities and career paths, and stereotypical beliefs about women and STEM professions. Given this scenario, this program aimed at positively influencing the girl child towards technology-enabled careers in the formative years of their education. By focusing on girl students, the program has provided opportunities for girls to self-actualization. As this intervention was introduced at an early stage;

It also provides a dipstick, in terms of their statistical data like age, gender, course type, etc. of 7500 students from the stream of IT-ITES. The results indicate that field of Artificial Intelligence, combined with soft skills is a key focus area to enhance their chances of employability. Specialized focus on the technical skills as well as emerging technologies that have a high market demand. The training intervention thus created was deliberately divided between theory and practical sessions with the latter taking a larger share. The course curriculum was designed, keeping in mind the industry needs. The selection of the course was validated by the key stakeholders in the ecosystem as well as the Subject Matter Expert skill space available in the market. The duration of the training program was of a total of 40 hours which included F2F training. Project work has collaborated with their learning teaching them skills like problem-solving and further enhancing additional skills integral to their future, such as critical thinking and time management.

Overall, the Microsoft Digital Skills Program has developed the zeal of pursuing careers in STEM jobs in the XIth and XIIth class students in government schools. The feedback of students has been very positive. The impact of this program is seen in the number of youth, specifically, women opting for a career in technology; choosing to do a higher graduate degree / diploma in technology, and has contributed towards bridging the gender gap in STEM.

The success of this project lies in the words of one trainee representing the sentiment of all, "It took least five years for me to even realize that 1 was a business woman. 1 was just a housewife with absolutely no experience doing business. Initially 1 to did not even know what or how to talk to my employees. Today, 1 have the courage and confidence to talk to anyone. Sometimes 1 feel all the housewives have such abilities to them but they remain hidden as they get no exposure. 1 tell other women to try to explore the world on their own with courage and confidence as nobody will give anything to you on a platter; you have to discover the right option. "
